Law enforcement officers in a small town in Oklahoma received calls regarding the body of a woman that was found in a car. As officers investigated, they located what is believed to be the murder weapon just blocks from the woman’s home. Her son was arrested on suspicion of killing her.

According to someone who claimed to be near the scene, a man was standing close to the 56-year-old woman’s car. That witness claims to have heard a noise that sounded like a gunshot. The description of the man at the car supposedly matched the description of the woman’s son. Police claim to have found evidence at the crime scene that is connected to him. Further, it is claimed that items in the home are linked to the gun allegedly used to kill the woman.

Based on this alleged evidence, the Sallisaw man was taken into custody on suspicion of the murder of his own mother. No further information was available at the time of this writing. Now, Sequoyah County prosecutors will need to review the evidence to determine whether enough evidence exists to proceed with a criminal case against the woman’s son.

Enlisting the assistance of a criminal defense team is critical considering the severity of the murder charge this Oklahoma man may face. A detailed examination of the evidence gathered by police and the statement of the witness will be required. In addition, it will be necessary to determine whether his rights were protected from the moment he first encountered police. From there, a course of action can be formulated that will ensure that his rights are protected throughout the proceedings.
